Icicle light count

Estimate how many icicle light strands you need from eave length and the horizontal spacing between drops (or set length).

Formula strands = ceil(eave_feet ÷ set_length_feet) · optional: clips ≈ eave_feet ÷ (drop_spacing_in ÷ 12)

Most LED icicle sets are about 7.5–9.5 ft along the top wire.

Used for optional clip estimate. Typical 6–12 in.

FAQ

How do I measure for icicle lights?

Measure each eave or gutter run separately in feet. Round each run up to whole sets so a shortfall does not leave a dark gap at a corner.

What drop spacing should I use?

Many homeowners clip about every 6–12 inches along the top wire so drops hang evenly without sagging.

Do I need longer drops on a two-story house?

Taller eaves often look better with longer drops so the fringe reads from the street; keep the lowest tip clear of shrubs and walkways.

Can I cut an icicle strand to fit?

Usually no — cutting can kill the circuit. Buy sets that match the run or plan overlapping plugs at downspouts.
