Outdoor lighted present stack count

Estimate how many pre-lit gift-box stacks fit along a porch, walk, or yard frontage from stack width and gap spacing for Prince William County Christmas lawns.

Formula stacks = floor((run_ft + gap_ft) ÷ (width_ft + gap_ft))

When to use

Use this when buying identical lighted present towers (stacked gift boxes) to line a driveway edge, porch front, or fence line.

Width is the footprint of one stack; gap is clear space between stacks so bows and cords do not tangle.

Porch front, walk edge, or yard line to dress.

Widest box in the stack, in feet.

Clear space center-gap style between footprints.

Optional backup for a corner accent.

Worked example

Example defaults — Run 24 ft; Width 1.5 ft; Gap 3 ft; Spare 0.

Compute: stacks = floor((24 + 3) ÷ (1.5 + 3)) = floor(27 ÷ 4.5) = floor(6) = 6.

Stake each stack and keep plugs on GFCI; leave room for a walk path between towers.

Second example: one input changed

From the defaults (Run length (feet) = 24; Stack footprint width (feet) = 1.5; Gap between stacks (feet) = 3; Spare stacks = 0), the calculator shows:

Stacks along the run: 6
Buy with spares: 6
Pitch (width + gap): 4.50 ft.

Now raise Run length (feet) from 24 to 36 and keep the other entries. The result becomes:

Stacks along the run: 8
Buy with spares: 8

Comparing the two runs tells you how sensitive the answer is to that one measurement. If a small change in it swings the result a lot, measure it twice.

Limits / assumptions

Units: run, width, and gap in feet.

Assumptions: identical stacks in a straight line; one stack per station; gap measured between footprints.

Not a substitute: amp-budget checks for the whole porch circuit.

Anchor stacks against wind. Do not block egress doors or sidewalk clear-width. Cap total wattage on the outdoor receptacle.

FAQ

Corner wrap?

Treat each straight leg as its own run, then add stacks — do not bend one run around the corner in this tool.

Mixed stack heights?

Count stations the same; vary height by eye for a skyline.

Amp headroom?

Check circuit headroom once you know the watts per stack.

Indoor window ledge?

Same math if you measure ledge length as the run.
