Halloween yard skull path count
Count pathway skull markers from path length, sides, and spacing for Prince William County Halloween walkways.
skulls = sides × (floor(path_ft × 12 ÷ spacing_in) + 1) (+ spare)
When to use
Use this for skull pathway markers / stake lights lining a walk or driveway edge — not general landscape path lights.
18–30 in spacing reads eerie; tighter packs look denser from the street.
Walk or driveway edge run.
Center-to-center along each side.
1 = one edge; 2 = both sides.
Breakage and color matching.
Worked example
Example defaults — 25 ft; 24 in; 2 sides → per side floor(300÷24)+1 = 13; total 26 + 2 spare = 28.
Face skulls toward the path so trick-or-treaters see the glow, not the stake backs.
Keep stakes outside the clear walking width.
Second example: one input changed
From the defaults (Path length (feet) = 25; Skull spacing (inches) = 24; Sides lined = 2; Spare skulls = 2), the calculator shows:
Skulls per side: 13
Total skulls: 26
Buy with spares: 28
Now raise Path length (feet) from 25 to 38 and keep the other entries. The result becomes:
Skulls per side: 20
Total skulls: 40
Buy with spares: 42
Comparing the two runs tells you how sensitive the answer is to that one measurement. If a small change in it swings the result a lot, measure it twice.
Limits / assumptions
Units: feet and inches.
Assumptions: straight path; one skull per station; similar stake height.
Not a substitute: low-voltage transformer load calculators for long LED strings.
Stake outside ADA walk clearances. Avoid trip hazards at night; use outdoor-rated cords if lighted.
FAQ
Pre-wired skull strings?
Count sockets on the string; this tool helps DIY individual stakes.
Curved path?
Measure the curve centerline along each edge.
Mix skulls and pumpkins?
Count skull stations here; pumpkins separately.
Driveway both sides?
Set sides = 2 and path = driveway length.
