Spooky silhouette stake count
Count yard stakes for Halloween silhouette cutouts from frontage, rows, and spacing for Prince William County lawns.
stakes = rows × (floor(frontage_ft × 12 ÷ spacing_in) + 1) (+ corners)
When to use
Use this for flat witch/cat/ghost silhouette stakes or plywood cutouts facing the street.
Vary heights across rows so silhouettes read with depth when a single spotlight hits them.
Lawn edge facing the street.
Center-to-center along the row.
Front row + back row for depth.
Driveway corners or walk entries.
Wind damage spares.
Worked example
Example defaults — 30 ft; 48 in; 2 rows → per row floor(360÷48)+1 = 8; ×2 = 16 + 2 corners + 2 spare = 20.
Place taller silhouettes in the back row; light from one side for long shadows.
Stake deep enough for October wind.
Second example: one input changed
From the defaults (Frontage run (feet) = 30; Silhouette spacing (inches) = 48; Depth rows = 2; Extra corner / entry stakes = 2; Spare stakes / cutouts = 2), the calculator shows:
Silhouettes per row: 8
Total (with corners): 18
Buy with spares: 20
Now raise Frontage run (feet) from 30 to 45 and keep the other entries. The result becomes:
Silhouettes per row: 12
Total (with corners): 26
Buy with spares: 28
Comparing the two runs tells you how sensitive the answer is to that one measurement. If a small change in it swings the result a lot, measure it twice.
Limits / assumptions
Units: feet and inches.
Assumptions: roughly straight frontage; one cutout per stake.
Not a substitute: wind-load engineering for large plywood sheets.
Keep silhouettes out of sidewalk clear width. Cap sharp stake tops if kids cut across the lawn.

Metal garden art stakes?
Same count; check manufacturer stake length for soil type.
Spotlight count?
Often 1–2 side lights for a whole row — see yard spotlight count.
